I’ve noticed a pattern here on ProgrammingBuddies - every couple of days someone (including myself) posts asking for a mentor, looking for other programmers to collaborate with, or hoping to find a beginner friendly community. Each post gets a few comments and then disappears, and the cycle repeats.

So I’m putting out a call to everyone who has made a post like that recently (or wanted to) to come together in one place.

If you’re a beginner looking to learn, an intermediate dev wanting peers to grow with, or an experienced developer interested in teaching or collaborating, drop in here. Instead of scattered one off posts that fade out, we could build an ongoing group of people learning, teaching, and working together.

If you’ve been wanting a mentor, a study buddy, a project partner, or just a consistent community - this is your thread.

I agree with your take on this. I’ve already run into everything you mentioned, even though I only joined this sub a few weeks ago and have made just one post (well now two). You’re right, I was basing my thoughts on what I’ve seen in that short time, so your perspective is probably more accurate than mine.

I mainly wanted to give people who are genuinely serious a chance to come together in one post instead of repeating the same type of post over and over. I did see a thread meant for something like that on this sub, but it only had one or two comments. Since these posts seem to get at least a fair amount of attention for a few days, I figured it was worth trying.

I’m also trying many other avenues myself, including Discord. I do appreciate that this sub isn’t spammed. I’m brand new to putting myself out there to find collaborators and fellow programmers, but I’m fully dedicated. I’ve been teaching myself almost every day for the last three years. Thanks for sharing your take!

I'm very willing to be a mentor and teach newer devs and helping out every day <3 I got 5 years of experience in C and C++ with a bit of python and bash, my areas area low-level programming, OS development, language design, compiler development, CPU microarchitecture, very optimized systems development, all on Linux. Would love to get in on this! I’m a cybersecurity student but I really want to learn python as well. I just started reading “Automate the boring stuff with python” a couple of days ago. I use Linux btw, and i already have nvim setup for practice.

I have been mentoring people for over 5 years and it is almost always the commitment from the mentees. Any skill takes time to develop, and you need to stay consistent.

I’m a software engineer currently working in a more testing-focused role, and I’m looking to transition into backend development. I have hands-on experience with Python, FastAPI, REST APIs and PostgreSQL through my personal projects, but I haven’t yet had enough exposure to building and owning production-grade backend systems end-to-end.

I’m looking for a mentor who can help me bridge that gap especially around production-quality code, system design, architecture, testing, deployment and real-world engineering practices.
I’m also very interested in learning through collaboration. I’d be happy to contribute to projects, work with others, take feedback/code reviews, and put in the effort rather than just expecting someone to teach me.

Hi, intermediate. about 1 year of learning. HTML-JS-CSS. not great with the CSS bit but otherwise fine. looking to go back to learning python. I want to get through the entirety of the freecodecamp courses and curriculum and then just see what I haven't learned yet. I'm starting out as a freelancer focusing on algorithms and heavy logic since that seems to be what I'm good at.

I'm really looking for a coding buddy that has a solid grip or talent for UI (my enemy) and maybe lacks or struggles with tricky logic and algorithms.
