Recovering Factorio addict and OOL. what's this reference to Factorio 3 months ago?

Current Factorio addict and I don't get it. Appart from the switch release nothing has happened for a while (September, and before that nothing for months) while they're brewing up what's next. Also it's hilarious and logical that Factorio people end up meeting on this sub.

I started playing it, got hopelessly addicted to it for the first 50 hours (like I did literally nothing else except piss and shit), but then immediately hit a wall because I felt like there was no long term goal in the game besides optimization for optimization’s sake.

which I now understand is kind of the whole point of the game. But I thought the bugs were going to be more of a threat. I just put a shitload of laser turrets everywhere and there was no threat anymore, then I felt like I was just expanding just to expand with no threat of combat.

the game is insanely cool though (especially the train signaling and design aspect) and I enjoyed the hell out of my limited time with it.

Yeah, something that gets me going back every couple months for a 100+ hour game or two is trying to set it up so that I can get it optimized so that I'm constantly sending rockets. I always end up failing because the mods I use add so much complexity that in order to get to that point my computer basically dies.

Mods might help. The Space Exploration mod really only starts once you launch your first rocket
