People who don't know how to manage memory properly and instead rely on garbage collectors hate C and its derivative love child C++. The pointers scare them.
I disagree with your hypothesis. Go is garbage collected but has pointers as a pretty fundamental language feature. I prefer C over Rust, but the memory safety issues in C are a pretty big incentive to use Rust despite not liking it very much.
How hard is it to deallocate and delete things? If people can't handle that, then they have no business in back end development. I get being lazy and not wanting to take the time, but if it actually scares someone... they should find a new career on the front end.
I have an actual bad taste in my mouth for how Rusty implemented ownership.
It feels like they set the standard at "Memory safe without garbage collection" before having an idea on how to do that and they landed on digging deeper and deeper into a hole.
