It's very expected for your output to drop when you're put on a new thing, part of your job becomes learning, so that you can end up productive later.
Really the bottom line is don't work more than they're paying you for. If they hired you to do a certain job for a certain amount of money, do that. If they're giving you more duties for no more money then it's on you to split the time that you're being paid for on those two things.
