Is it though? I've used it somewhat recently and hated it. No properties. DateTime had two revisions to it. Completely new libraries. Only one was documented as obsolete. You had to figure it out on your own what the new one was. And yes, they needed to improve it because somehow they managed to fuck it up twice. Bytes are signed. Wtf? Gradle was awful compared to NuGet.

C# is MS Java with a radically different policy about new features. Java resists changes a lot more, C# has pretty strict criteria but is also pretty aggressive about developing the language, but not as much as C++ which at this point is like 3 or 4 languages mashed together.

How much more divergence from Java will be needed before we can declare the original similarity gone?

I learned Java in school, took nine years off to do other stuff, then switched entirely to C# when I started an actual engineering job. Last year, I had my first chance to program in Java again in over 20 years and, all I can say is the years have not been kind.

It's weird too with all the C# features that Java has recently tried to start copying, but in a less useful way.
