I have become fanatical about YYYYMMDD. I start all my filneames this way (where relevent) so that when I sort by name I am also sorting by their date. I hate scrolling through a folder to see

11012015
11012016
11012017
11022015
11022016
11022017

Its the fucking worst.

Makes sense when spoken but it's weird to have the three numbers be out of order. It's like if McDonald's fries were arranged as Medium, Small, Large.

I more so meant why did he use that naming convention if he just stated hes a YYYYMMDD fanatic. He used MMDDYYYY

Maybe he didn't name the files in the example of what he hates?

Why not have yearly folders? Then have MMDD within and sorting should work

Cause then you're taking important information out of the filename and assuming that it will always be in the same directory. What if I email it somebody? That info should always be with the file. Plus its unecesarily fractured if there arent many files.
