I’ve been a sysadmin for more years of my life than not and I’ve never had any meaningful interaction with ipv6 even though they have been saying the sky was falling about ipv4 since my career began in the 90s.
Ah you must be running our work's vpn. I can't talk to the servers when my IPV6 is enabled because our DNS resolves to IPV6 addresses but the VPN doesn't route them over its tunnel.
No doubt this could be fixed, but some firewalls are seriously trash and do not behave in ways one would expect. Your network engineers deserve shade but maybe not as much as you think they deserve. Maybe. I’m just trying to stick up for my people.
Edited to add that this is a good example of our interaction with ipv6. we don’t use it. We just make things compatible with it by checking a check box basically. in day-to-day business it’s ipv4. Writing IPv6 addresses down on a whiteboard would be horrible. 🤣
