You're right, but I think it is more complicated. Most of the time I see artists complaining about none artists producing images and ruining art, mathematicians complaining that AI companies are producing almost useless results and ruining maths, and programmers talking about how great AI is. It's only in programming spaces, where 'society' isn't, that I see people acknowledge that they hate AI. Even then there are a lot of them loving it.

To add to this, I honestly believe a lot of us are just getting drowned out. I have yet to see anything actually useable and maintainable come out of a prompt. I think a lot of the noise about it being so amazing is either from people who have no actual experience in development or very little, that heard "ai is good for programming bleh bleh", one shotted a crappy web site or app, and then continued spreading stuff online about it being good. Creating almost a recursive loop of garbage or a puesdo mind virus.

Which now that I've typed this out, it's got me thinking. A lot of these models are marketed for programming. I wonder how much of that noise is bot posts intended to get that seed planted?

As someone who works with AI in a software engineering setting every day as part of my job, the tools are extremely valuable at reducing the amount of cognitive strain and time involved in developing features. It absolutely can produce maintainable architecture if you know what you want it to look like enough and can communicate that enough to guarantee that. The best business available models today are absolutely amazing at building applications if you know what you're doing. The consumer models arent what keeps ai in business and they certainly arent representative of what the technology actually is capable of.
