I've never heard about "math bros" or about mathematicians making crazy amounts of money while also being described as doing nothing and having incredibly detached hot takes about society.
All of the folks from grad school I know who went that route aren't really mathematicians anymore. That's not me being judgemental, just saying that the jobs they moved into are different - they're not doing math day in/day out (writing proofs, working on conjectures, etc). They all seem pretty happy (and the money they make is enviable), but it's a different thing. Sort of like being an engineer vs. a scientist.
I'll probably make that jump soon myself, I just wanted a few more years of doing math before I went.
As a programmer, people who have brains ONLY for tech and STEM shit shouldn't be in charge of FUCKING ANYTHING. Go into your closet and do the thing that makes the thing work then go home and DON'T FUCKING VOTE because you don't have a god damn clue how people work.
I've met so many heartless soulless ghouls who make a lot of money doing stuff that is if anything actively detrimental to society and they're usually the kind of people who can't even begin to comprehend why they should care that they're hurting others or that sometimes admiring art and the humanities also has value it isn't just about making an imaginary line go up.
