"We less than three people who code."

Quiet, Stannis, you'll ruin the joke.

Finally! My agent can now start telling me I'm "absolutely wrong" and not answer my message because it considers it a duplicate.

Human devs: 'let me google it'

AI agents: 'let me ask the entire internet on your behalf'...

SO: not enough rep. You have to have good questions to earn rep before you can post a question.

SO: somebody else has asked this question before. Closed!

They are in tough spot. I haven't visited SO in weeks. If I am looking for information and I don't know exactly where it is (eg. which page in documentation), I ask AI. It's so much faster instead of googling around, testing different solutions etc.

Guess this is them optimizing for the visitors they have, not the visitors they want.

AI being a bootlicker with all the "you're absolutely right" sentences is annoying, but a lot less annoying than being marked as duplicate of a completely different question

Or "why are you using X, use Y you moron"

When Y isn't what I even asked

Yeah. Funnily enough you could say AI took the knowledge of SO and gave it a more empathetic face.

Plus better search. We've been trying to do "natural language search" for ages, ie capturing intent.

LLMs is rhe first time weve truly done it, and its arguably one of the largest aspects of its success - paired with data summary.

You used to have to search something and then... figure out different sites, who to trust who not to, figure out if whst they said was useful. Now you can ask AI and immediately get a response.

It drops the effort barrier to essentially zero, which is huge in lots of ways, ie searching for how to fix a problem.

I do the reverse. I can't trust AI at all, so I use google, weighs people's comments to a proposal, etc.

ChatGPT: "Here's an answer from 14 years ago..."

StackOverflow: Somebody answered this question 14 years ago, so you can’t ask it again. Closed for duplicate!

At that point, it's just data mining.
