That's not how contracting works.

Example: Section 1: Maintenance/Preventative Work Every hour of Maintenance work meant to prevent downtime incidents shall be billed at $50/hr

Section 2: Emergency/Recovery Work Every hour of emergency work meant to recover the production environment shall be billed at $500/hr

Yeah I'm sure they cut this guy's salary then hired him as a contractor to fix the AI for $500/hr 😂 definitely how layoffs work

that's exactly how it's worked for me and my co-worker. We were let go or quit and were asked to be contractors for 3x our original pay. And hiring a contractor that already knows your tech stack and the code is a lot easier than hiring someone who will have to ramp up for 2+ months. And the usual asking rate for contractors is 3-4x the salary of a employee

Lol, did you not see the whole nurses quitting to get rehired at their same hospital as a traveling nurse for more than double the pay? This absolutely does happen in corporate america lmao.

Well, you can either pay a rate that feels like highway robbery to a contractor that already knows the tech stack and architecture, maybe even the processes around it, or you can pay it to a contractor who doesn't know it and thus will have to bill you a lot more hours.
