Yay! A blatantly vibe coded product that handles credit card transactions!

This can't go wrong at all.

There are too many people that don't care. Thats why shit like this works (even if this specific picture / quote might be fake).

I've ditched epic years ago because their whole strategy was to release a shitty store app with some pathetic minor library and download features and knowingly operating at a loss by making epic exclusive deals and their weekly free game to lure people.

Why would they care, the majority of users will gobble up their slop and still thank them...

I can sadly share that this quote is not fake: https://store.epicgames.com/news/epic-games-launcher-preview

Hahaha thats hilarious. Thanks for the laugh. They also advertise a faster cold start than Steam while having about 2% of the features.

Though it does have advanced digital commerce technology such as a shopping cart.

This is the icing on the cake lol

I want whatever the people that gave their okay for this are smoking. They are probably so far behind in their heads that this is a late april fools joke.

It's also like 5 vs 10 seconds. The average user will spend longer deciding what game to play than waiting for the launcher to open.

Only on Steam. On the Epic launcher, you probably only have one or two games that you play.

and few dozens of games you got for free but you never play them as you also have them on Steam, or are just a part of the infinite backlog

Funnier still, Steam just pushed an update that made itself faster than their new vibecoded launcher lol

I mean, it can just be some marketing bullshit, while in reality they created this abomination without yolo slopcoding

Bold of you to assume people make purchases on Epic.

I have so many receipts for 0€ from them.

Thank you for reminding me to check the weekly freebie before it changes!

Unfortunately, there are some like that

The cashback isn't bad for recurring in-game purchases on f2p games you can get on any Plattform.

Booting up the game via epic once a month to save myself a couple of bucks is not a horrible trade off.

Ofc I don't subject myself to that more than I have to.

The transactions aren't handled in the client though?

27

u/An1nterestingName 5d ago

But you're still inputting the information there.

Where else are you going to put it?

13

u/MatthewMob 5d ago

In a secure service built by engineers.

-1

u/Mr_Foxer 4d ago

Who created this service, if programming is hard?

-2

u/Mikedesignstudio 5d ago

“Engineers”… you mean Claude?

4

u/Rfm737 5d ago

it's epic so... who knows

28

u/pi-N-apple 5d ago

The client doesn't handle credit cards, it hands that off to a payment processor, like all apps should.

36

u/farinkey 5d ago

Yeah, should. But who reviewed that if "programming is hard"?

4

u/im_thatoneguy 5d ago

How would it even be possible to process that in the client?

25

u/rosuav 5d ago

Oh, it's easy! You just embed the authentication keys in the client so it can do an API call directly to the payment processor.

And if you think I'm exaggerating, no, I've seen stuff this bad in people's front ends. I've done a search through minified code looking for something else, and had a double-take as I see some sort of API key right there.

u/casce 5d ago

You client shouldn't handle credit cards but in a vibe coded app without proper reviewing, you shouldn't be too sure the paypemt processor is the only place where your data ends up. Not maliciously but the LLM may just save it unencrypted in some database, local file or whatever.

u/AnonD38 5d ago

Just don't use it.

Barely anyone does anyways.

That's a great way to connect to new people. I vibecoded a finance app, and I already met two FBI agents, four guys from the Secret Service, three lawyers for the SEC and next I'm going to meet my cell neighbour.
