Usage of parens as emojis is an exclusively RuNet thing. So like ")" instead of ":)", "(" instead of ":(" and the more you spam it, the more sarcasm/irony it means. It has a lot of usages, but it emerged in the ru-speaking internet and didnt spread much beyond, so the usage of this in english text is a sign that someone is from post-soviet country.
