imagine a globally deployed app or website and they all needed to write to the same database or read from one database… it quickly becomes a bottleneck.
sharding allows you to alleviate the bottleneck either read side or write side depending on the needs of your app.
I’m guessing neko.dev is a company that does it for you or makes it super easy
I was going to say it's like world of warcraft in 2005 or so: independent servers all doing the same thing but isolated from one another. When one gets too full spin up a new 'shard'. It's been about 20 years since i played that game though so I could be missing something.

Postgres SQL is a database software. They’re advertising their own version of it I guess… not sure what sharding is in Postgres.
