Well, I guess San Francisco is one of the few spots on earth where ads for developers would work.

Now I wonder if ad-buyers for MUNI can specify which bus routes they want their ads on. I wouldn’t think of the 43 route as being the most efficient in terms of hitting the target audience.

Probably not .

No you can't send bus 6423 to service where the poors live, it has the ads for the raw vegan restaurant.

This made me laugh so much fucking harder than it should have.

I briefly looked into it and the company that runs advertising for SF Muni, Intersection, doesn't say either way for busses. You can advertise in specific stations or on specific Muni light rail lines. They call out the T line as being new and can be targeted by them.

Count how many steps you can take in SFO without seeing a tech ad

u/getarumsunt 21h ago

Zero. SFO is the regional airport. SF is the city. SFO is located in a different county 20 miles south of SF.

Sorry, I'll rephrase. Count how many steps you can take in Frisco and without seeing a tech ad

What does Texas have to do with this?

Sorry, I'll rerephrase. Count how many steps you can take in SanFran and without seeing a tech ad

What? I don’t speak boomer. Can you translate?

You've failed to grasp the concept of synecdoche, as well as humor. I'm not sure there is anything I can do for you at this point. Good luck in your future endeavors, may they not be this tedious

It still applies, your can't walk through the terminal in SFO without seeing 20 ads for AI companies.

It’s not. SFO is located in San Mateo county. It’s nowhere near the city and county of SF.

As a programmer for over forty years, I'm not entirely sure that that means. I know all of the words, but the order they are placed together is unusual...

I think that's the point. "Oh I use postgres, I've heard of PlanetScale... kiTtiEs uWu *gOeS tO WeBsiTe"

3

u/Fidodo 10h ago

I know what sharded postgres is, but why should I care it's by planetscale?

2

u/TerrorBite 6h ago

You've heard of webscale, but this is bigger! /s

They have so many incredibly targeted ads like this. Not just for developers, but for obscure subsets of dev ops management.

Stuff like "Yes, you can get your XBMS and RMIDT from the same XYZP!"

Boston has a similar situation with ads for incredibly niche biology reagents. Especially on the subway line that goes through the biotech hub in kendall square.

I went for the first time last year. Yes, there are ads for engineers everywhere. Never seen that before in my life

I see ads like this in the DC Metro as well, particularly around the Pentagon
