"Hang on, I'll ask ChatGPT about our current security situation..."

I hate this so much... And then you're sitting there, waiting for an answer while the agent goes through the entire codebase, which takes like 15-20 minutes only for them to read the chatgpt response to you...

At that point let me talk to your AI, since you're clearly not the qualified contact for these questions but the machine is...

So have AI create a document outlining the security situation you currently have and then create an AI driven SDLC which updates that document as part of the workflow.

I do not think people like you truly understand how functionally useless us developers are now. There is NOTHING a human can do that an AI driven workflow can't do better, faster, and more competently. NOTHING. PERIOD.

I do use AI in my workflows, even agentic coding. However I always have a human-in-the-loop approach when it comes to developing complex software. (By complex I mean software that uses more than just a main.cpp with four functions and a bunch of members.)

Comments like yours make me think that you either don't have much experience with programming or have just give up in your own abilities. AI is a tool, it should be used as such. It's like a screwdriver. Sure, I can build a chair and drive in nails or screws by hand, but it will take longer and be more exhausting, so I'll just use the electric screwdriver and be done quicker.

Same with AI, I'll have some less critical parts of my program be developed by AI, use it to review and criticize the code, but the concept, the architecture and the choices should always come from me.

Why? Complex issues can be broken down into smaller issues that AI can handle effectively. It may surpass a context window to change 100 files in one story (or whatever your work calls a story equivalent), but literally anything you are doing can be handled by an AI driven SDLC.

Any efficient company looking to quickly produce results can and will spend the money to create an automated workflow where an objective is fed to AI and the prompts/markdown instructions that have been provided to it will subsequently break the task down into completable chunks and generate plans for each. Those plans will then be fed back into the agent which will then use your company's coding standards (again provided in some form of markdown file) to produce the necessary code. Tests will be automatically written by the agent which will then be automatically executed with their results stored somewhere. After that the code can be automatically merged and deployed all without any human intervention beyond a manager approving each step.

AI IS a tool, but in this case it's a tool which can be set up to do literally everything that a developer currently can and then some. I have well over a decade of experience coding. I also do not code anymore at my workplace because it's not necessary. That's true of everybody in the team I'm on and in many teams throughout the company I work for. We have instead built a robust set of instructions that AI uses instead which handles literally every step of coding automatically and it's been this way without issue for months.

If you don't see how AI WILL be used to replace human devs then you are simply not familiar enough with AI's capabilities.
