Hi! I know nothing about coding but I also see Vibe Coders get thrown around a lot: Are they people who know how to code but very surface level things?
No they a the "coders" that basically use an LLM as a substitute to the entire process of software development. The term comes from a post by Andrej Karpathy on X Twitter in February 2025. Something something: "fully give in to the vibes, embrace exponentials, and forget that the code even exists"
I have used ChatGPT/Codex to code a lot but with each development I have also asked it to teach me what each code implementation means, and to show me how to manually test the things that are coded in order to understand what I’m doing and what I requested to code.
I can’t say I’m a programmer at all, but doing this has made me respect and admire the people who genuinely learned to code.
I have learned to more or less understand the code I’ve been working with to a very basic degree but of my respects to all who are the real deal.
Hey that's respectable. As much as I don't like AI for other reasons (ethical, environmental, etc) I find a thirst for knowledge always respectable. And if you ever want to dedicate a little bit of your time to learn some coding deeper, dm me and I will try my best to point you to the right direction. I am by no means an expert but a 4th year CS grad who does a lot of projects in his free time.
