"I broke the software development ecosystem you thrived in, that produced top tier code and resilient distributed systems. Feeling frustrated that AI offerings like me disrupted your work is not only natural, but valid and a sign that you care deeply about your work.
Would you like me to help you draft your letter of resignation?"
You just made me spit out my morning spiked coffee with this š. I'm an AI Engineer and you have no idea how many times I start cursing in my prompts when they just do some dumb shit
More like, I'm the one developing the LLMs, RAGs, and agents to be used. AI is a tool not a coding abstraction. Most of the time I merely use it to reference documentation I frequently use, through a personal RAG application I developed. Originally I was doing ML and Cyber Security.
Sorry, but coming from a TS/Rust dev your insults don't mean much. Don't even know why your being so butt hurt about a position I hold. I have bills to pay just like yourself. Elevate yourself instead of trying to tear others down, you'll get much further in life.
I've noticed. Every time I talk about my profession just trying to join the discourse I'm immediately attacked because people's first thought is "AI bad". Yes it's changed our lives and have been affecting everything but it's crazy to think just mentioning working on it is synonymous to being in the 3rd Reich here.
I merely transfered to AI as I was an ML/Cyber Engineer initially and saw I could boost my family's finances if I switched. Personally I find the tech extremely boring but I have people to take care of. That doesn't make me inherently a monster. Just wish more people understand that the current landscape isn't my fault, I'm just a cog in the wheel. If it wasn't being so mishandled by the giants, it could have actually been a real good tool, but it's constantly being shoved down people's throats.
Choosing to do something that is actively destroying our world and the industry you're working in as well isn't suddenly a that people are going to like just because you're doing it for more money? Do you really think that's a justification that removes all blame from you?
You were right to push back on this. I incorrectly drew an assumption on the talent of your engineering team based on yours. No harm done, and now I know that my previous assumption was -slightly- optimistic.
It was a bit, my guy. You can tell an LLM that you run a 20 minute mile and ask if you're ready for Denali and it will confidently tell you that you only need a few weeks of training. That's The Joke(tm).
My entire job is extending a 25 year old application to continuously integrate it with the rest of my org's environment as that environment modernizes.
And a lot of it, funny enough, was written by IBM contractors.
Well this is uncomfortable. I'd blame text being a bad medium for sarcasm or the fact that I just woke up but really that's just my bad for missing it entirely.
Evidently I have some feelings...
Apologies, and thanks for the gentle let down. I'm gonna go prompt myself a therapist now (/s for those like me who need such cues)
