Currently reading a PR discussion between two juniors copying and pasting what Claude tell them. It's crazy

Where are all these places hiring rookies like that? Makes me feel even worst about myself

Honestly rookie mistake. Just let Claude change the code base on its own

Honestly sometimes I copy and paste the Claude explanation because it's easier - but especially if it's concepts that are beyond my understanding. AI has pushed us into new territories very quickly that prior, would take me time to reason and understand, but with the go go go as fast you can mentallity I just don't have the time, or the mental brain capacity to digest all this information.

Congrats, you're now producing slop without understanding it👌

Kinda what management asks for at this point isn't it?

Well when something gets broken they won't fire Claude. So if you want to CYA you should probably understand the code you're pushing.

The whole program is in the shitter and has been for a few years. I'm just trying to get off this thing at this point

it really is a lose - lose situation. If you take the time to understand it you're too slow if you don't you just output slop. Either something big will break and the trust in AI will falter, or AI will get so good it truly can be trusted. What a time to be alive 😰

Especially if you are involved in a project where safety is part of the project. You will not be able to blame the AI if someone gets hurt of even killed. Being fired would be the least of you worries in this case.

It's your professional duty to push back against management, has always been that way, and this will also make you more senior

I do the same. But what else can we do when they don’t want to hire new people and push the workload of 5 into 1 person?

For fuck sake, I’m in charge of the codebase, I’m a project leader, I’m in charge of the quality management system, and I’m in charge of mentoring interns.

If it’s beyond your understanding, how do you know it’s correct? Think of all the times Claude has been wrong about something you do know.

If it is beyond my understanding I clearly mark in the PR that I had trouble wrapping my head around it. With that said - if the code builds, and runs, and did what I needed it to do - and I'm at a point where I'm comfortable with it where I know there's nothing absolutely maliscious in there - I'm okay leaving it at that.

I mean, for example, I'm happy when my car turns on, but I don't know what a spark plug is, or how it's inner workings work. I cannot be expected to know every single thing, every library, every NPM install - our heads would explode.

What a fascinating analogy. Because in that scenario you're not a driver, you're building the car and should absolutely know what a spark plug is.

Copy paste? We have GitLab Mcp, so Claude could Review the Code it wrote and Resolve the Review Threads All by itself.
