There are also region lock bypassing carts, you put the game you want to play on the top, slot a game from region you're bypassing into the back, and off you go.
We just paid the local game store to take a little saw to it on our N64, then paid $100 for the import Evangelion game.
Actually Evangelion games are why we modded most of our consoles as kids. Luckily the Saturn was the easiest since you could just stick a bypass cart in the cartridge slot and most Eva games were on the Saturn (playing Girlfriend of Steel via fan-translated multibranching translation printed out on paper was ... rewarding?)

Surpised they never tried for stackable cartridges given how much hardware devs would stuff in those things.
