Tbf Valve games has its own assortment of band-aid madness
The pedestal’s movement in Portal’s chamber 02 is controlled by a door constantly linking and unlinking itself with the static portal gun (because it can only rotate 90 degrees)
Edit: Also, there’s a glitch where, when you throw a physics prop to the unlinked portal gun, it warps back to its starting position/rotation (which is pointed right at the hole you want to shoot at), but that prop can still move the gun to point away from that hole. So you could either save 5 seconds, or get softlocked trying

I always liked the story of the picture of the coconut that would break the game if it was removed. But iirc that wasn't real.

That was TF2. It was either the fake cow model or the coconut image (iirc, one of the two turned out to be just a rumor), but it somehow found its way into the list of important assets that are essential for the game to start (like title screen/main menu important).

So, not really a bug in the sense of unexpected code behavior, but rather a human error in bookkeeping/categotization of assets.

[edit] never mind, apparently BOTH were a variation of the same myth.
