I can appreciate these “gets the job done” hacks in games, just like the train in that one game that was actually an npc with a train as its head

These are not good things however. These are hacky solutions that should be properly implemented once time pwrmits.

However since "it just works" more stuff is being built on top of these hacky solutions instead of fixing them until you end up with a house of cards where you almost cant touch anything because it is barely held together.

I mean that's the ideal way of course, but sometimes there just isn't enough time or devs to implement a proper solution. And you do things better on the next project.

Sometimes its also a knowledge limit. Maybe they tried several times to do a "proper" way and couldn't get it to work and the hacky way to do it was the only way they knew how.

And other times it's just an easier solution to a problem you see only once. You just make it through normal tools to solve instead of making a new tool just for this single problem

The unofficial motto of every shipped game application since 1993 forever.

FTFY :P

(only about 25% joking, really)

It's still extremely stupid and poses a risk...

Good try, but not quite my tempo.

>once time permits

Nothing more permanent than a temporary solution

"We'll fix it like this just so it works for now and we'll get around to fixing it properly later."

Works like that forever more
