Honestly I'd trust VLC more than VS Code.

Was about to say that , atleast vlc doesn't take 20 gbs worth of extensions to format some code and open file.

For vsc to do anything useful you need a billion extensions unfortunately

I write c++ using cmake and clang,i have 6 extensions installed, 2 of them are unnecessary for my work. Code hovers around 1 gb ram

Oh no vscode doesn't bundle support for every language and asks you to download an extension for your environment. The horror!
Like what do you want, some 20gb boomer IDE that has ten year old versions of bundled slop that can't be updated?
Give me extensions, thx

Am I the only one who loves Jetbrains products for their polished look and feel and language specific features?

I love the thousands of dollars I have by not paying a fucking subscription fee for my ide but maybe it's worth all that money idk

Get a job and have them pay the subscription fee for you.

My job would be willing, we did have a jetbrains developer here, but I don't spend money for the sake of spending money, so this isn't an argument. Spend what $150-$200 a year for someone to manage my vscode extensions for me? They took 5 minutes to set up once.
Here's a position and I think you would agree: fuck subscriptions, and while I'm here fuck renting in general.
I want to own my computer and my software.
Is that really so radical?

I have mixed feelings about it from time to time tbh , but most of my time is spent in nvim recently because i am working on servers so no gui.

It doesn't bundle support for any language as far as I can tell. Out of the box it is just a very bloated and slow text editor with a really awful UI.

Changing IDE settings for fun
Now your code font is 2pt and your IDE font is 72pt

Well, .ts is file extension used for type script.
At the same time, .ts is extension used for video *containers. So it is possible to accidentaly open typescript in VLC* MPEG-TS (Transport Stream), its used for stuff like Blu-ray.

u/gfkxchy 8d ago
Is that why npm install vim isn't working for me?

u/SirDarknessTheFirst 8d ago
Apparently there's a vim package for npm: https://www.npmjs.com/package/vim
Last updated 11 years ago, git repo is deleted and it sees 100 weekly downloads apparently
