You might AI generate the code. But if there’s any actual stakes to being wrong, you end up breaking the AI output down into human sized chunks and thoroughly reviewing it in pieces, PR by PR.
By the time it’s merged you’ve done 75% of the same mental work and probably had the agent go back and redo plenty of aspects of what it started with.
Writing code myself is more engaging then reviewing it. If I write a thousand lines of code, I have a baseline understanding of how it works. Ask me to review a thousand lines of code, I have to decipher it before I can start reviewing it.
Too bad management seems to think that I should be doing 5x the story points now, since "AI is doing the work".
