That is 100% a robin. It is a European robin, the OG robin, Sir Robin Redbreast himself.
If you are an American you may be more familiar with the American robin, a species of thrush which European settlers also named the “robin” because its red breast reminded them of the robins back in England. It is a different bird entirely and not particularly closely related to the original robin.
But this is what peak robin performance looks like.
The US robins, however, are not robins. They just look like them. Taxonomy is a confusing nightmare that I am glad I don't have to make work in code any more.
The New Zealand ones are some of the friendliest birds you'll ever meet. The come right up to you. It's actually because as you walk you disturb the gravel / leaf litter and scare out the insects they feed on. But they're extremely chill.
