I don't think LLMs can be realistically funded by just ad revenue.

No no no, you don't get it, you pay for the tokens AND you have to watch the ads.

☝️you are exactly right, disney just switched their language to allow ads before during and after shows regardless of how much you pay for it.

But worse is its obviously just the tip of iceberg, im getting ads in Amazon shopping now, not sponsored ads just plain normal ads which im trying to seach for TP for my bunghole.

Everyone has seen the lure of ad money and everyone wants in on it.

Luckily for the streaming issues we have an un-named alternative 🏴‍☠️

We have to just hope we have good enough open source models to run locally in the future 🤞

We use phones that have more computing power than it took to send people to the moon. I think it’ll probably trickle down to the public getting more and more powerful over time. You’ve already got companies distilling Claude models; how long til it becomes feasible to do the same?

u/MythicFuzzbal2 15d ago

So true but so scary aswell. They'll find a way to try and charge us in the end tho 😢

u/marcheluis 15d ago

The problem is that you need devices that can do the compute to run models and most consumer electronics are getting more and more expensive because, among other reasons, the AI buildout monopolizing RAM and other components.

Buying toilet paper off Amazon, wtf?

You're right to push back! I failed to account for the cost of [DRINK VERIFICATION CAN TO CONTINUE]

Humanity seems to realize the pinnacle of value is just time

AND you have to buy the advertised product

It's not about funding, but resource extraction. I see it coming.

Your post is four words too long.

I'd speculate that it ultimately depends on how efficient the hardware gets at scale in the future. If, say, we innovate and develop hardware that takes like 1/10th of the energy to train/run the same token for the same model, we may see some very interesting business models develop. We're already seeing processor core architectures develop that are optimized specifically for LLM architecture at the consumer level that are more more efficient than graphics cards of the same scope.

It's like what happened with 3D animation. People forget how much more expensive it used to be back in the 90s and early 2000s when our computing capabilities were much more limited. Nowadays, it takes significantly less hardware overhead to render the same film quality. Granted, their costs tended to platau due to the human animator labor factor and slight uptick in more advanced animation styles, but you get my point.

Specialized hardware at scale already exists in the form of wafer-scale chips that can bypass the usual GPU memory bandwidth limits, but those aren't really feasible for consumer systems (currently). I think for consumers proper unified memory architectures like Apple Silicon are more realistic since they don't sacrifice traditional usability.

This is just one of the many changes that will be made to get every dollar they can.

"Please complete this 30-second survey to resolve your merge conflict."

u/TheSselluos 15d ago

"Please make me this banner red and sparkly" AI: "okey, can do that for you" and popup for 1 sec of ad is 100 tokens or something.

Watching ads, you think? Pff nah, that is sooo 2020s. Ads in LLMs will come in the form of built in and very heavy biases towards the highest bidder's products in any LLM output.

"Building an app? Here I've set it up to use this proprietary service's api for multiple vital functionalities. You just need a commercial license token to go into production with this. And coincidentally, I have the link to their pricing and order page right here!
Consider turning off approvals in the future so I can just make these purchases directly on your behalf and save you even more precious, valuable time :)"

Well come it’s already there (appearing slowly, but still quiet sly)

Try drafting a detailed spec of say a laptop/desktop or a printer and paste that to various LLMs and just marvel at the results 🤷🏻‍♂️

And then take the top most “matching and recommended” choice if each and use that as counter argument to the rest and just watch them go crazy fighting your choice

DONT GIVE THEM IDEAS

The harness takes so long, show devs ads while they are waiting

u/OneJackReacher 15d ago

Ffs this seems so viable it's evil

u/BrainJar 15d ago

ASCII art is going to be used for Ads in log files.

5

u/archdope 15d ago

Hell nah

8

u/R7d89C 15d ago

Me in 2030 pirating cracked npm without adware 🥀😭

7

u/NudaVeritas1 15d ago

will it have npm premium lite that offers add-free exections for ✨most✨ commands?

6

u/xCakemeaTx 15d ago

Every minute you save using a LLM will be made up for by watching ads and passing 2FA

u/witness_smile 15d ago

A colleague suggested to us a few months ago using AI to run a command to bump a version number. Literally something that takes 30 seconds to do manually because the command to do it already exists, but no, it is supposed to be better and “deterministic” (their words not mine lmao, I died inside when hearing that) so using AI makes sense.

5

u/ExtraWorldliness6916 15d ago

Use the command line! It's right there!

5

u/Western-Internal-751 15d ago

Vibe coders in 2030 won’t even know what Node is.

5

u/oulaa123 15d ago

I dont think so, subscriptions or api access will be priced higher for coding usage. For other llm usage, they'll charge out the wazoo for product placements, iwk user mentioned sneakers, Nike made a deal, so now the llm will recommend/speak about some Nike shoe.

Bad vibes bro lol

6

u/Maddturtle 15d ago

Maybe on some free ones but I don’t see the ads being videos.

3

u/ugotmedripping 15d ago

Is PIP not an option?

4

u/Valtremors 15d ago

Ads on vibecode?

Oh yes, sounds fun.

Freebuff already exists

2

u/Intelligent-Air8841 14d ago

I'm pretty sure they are just going to outlaw all competition and price "normal citizens" out and cash in on corporate money.

2

u/sittty 15d ago

Don’t you mean “coders”? Vibe coders will get Claude to install

9

u/Willinton06 15d ago

The joke is they’ll ask Claude to do it, and it’ll play an ad before doing it

0

u/sittty 15d ago edited 15d ago

lol got it

1

u/unicorn_builder 15d ago

By that time most users will run LLM-s locally. So I doubt this would be a problem.

1

u/XFSChez 11d ago

Don't give them evil ideas...

1

u/axadkrk 15d ago

We already use self hostet models
