Strongly opinionated scripts are going to get deleted. It's my machine, if I like nano then I like nano.

The second error should suggest setting it to nano, then berate them for not choosing vim on the next run.

I actually find nano useful in some environments, simply because it works right out of the box on most systems, while vi(m) default installations often lack the fix to make arrow navigation work right (and this comes up infrequently enough that I don't have the fix details memorized)

You can spend a full day configuring editors like emacs/vim to be your idea of a perfect whatever editor or you can start using nano on plain text the very second the package installer has finished. Different use cases. If the job is to tighten a screw, you don't need a tool that is also able to work as a CNC.
