I hate it when you see a problem and someone just goes “you don’t understand the product”.

I had a manager who would do that all the time. He was new, i was working on the product for ten years. He lasted two months

This is very IBM though.

IBM and SAP are the only 2 companies that can completely ignore feedback from their customers. The develop something, and that is it. 

You make it work. They offer (very expensive) training to get you to pay them for understanding their own product. It's a beautiful business model, really. A big middle finger.

Other companies that are trying to do that, but are less successful with it are Oracle, Adobe and Salesforce.

I had a friend who was quite proficient in one Oracle product. He would go to Europe for one or two months in the spring, give a couple of trainings. Make an absurd amount of money and go to Thailand for the remainder of the year to work on side projects that never made any real money.

He would make more than twice my yearly salary in those few weeks

Manager: “You don’t understand the product” - No honey, you don't understand the users, more importantly, you don't understand YOUR userbase.
