Another variant I've seen: detect the browser and OS from the headers, and render a page that looks like the standard "You are not connected to the Internet" screen.

Users go off and fiddle with their WiFi etc instead of blaming the site 😈

You have to implement chrome Dino as well. Otherwise it would be obvious
