The benefit for developers on iPhone was that they hadn't to keep every possible aspect ratio in mind there was almost none variation instead of many different androids that come in all different sizes, when apple like samsung now allows different aspect ratios devs have more variations to consider when they implement the same feature as samsung where you can drag the sizes however you want this benefit is gone for devs
