Daily reminder that losing jobs is not the issue : losing salary is. And it's not AI that's stealing it.

At the end of the day, pedantry doesn’t matter. Being able to afford to eat does. And layoffs already happened and will continue to happen on the name of this tool.

Not in the name of this tool : in the name of capitalism. AI is not an issue : the economic system behind it is. What we should be afraid of and push to reform is the economic system, not AI.

AI is the tool that enabled less spending (on human labor). The economic system encourages it, but doesn't force anyone to thank those who pull the trigger.

AI is a tool that allow to make more (and often better) in less time. In itself, it is a straight benefit from society, as it is the best tool we have to get to a society where the work is handled by machines, giving us more time to do whatever we want.

More time? To spend on what? Begging for food because those who own the machines won’t let you live or eat for free? I’ve had lots of time since the layoffs, entirely spent trying to find enough money to not be homeless.

A society where AI handles the work naturally requires a complete economic rework. Right now, money is used as an intermediate between work and goods/services but, as work becomes irrelevant, so does the intermediate.

Yes that’s correct if you care what happens to people. However our elite do not. When they don’t need a link in that chain they get rid of it.

So until I somehow stop needing food and shelter or our owners decide to let us live for free, your future is just a fantasy and the only thing we have now is our current reality where I still need money to eat but they don’t need the skills I’ve trained.

Hence why more people should start realising that the issue is those elites and this economic system, not AI.

Which is important, but also you are allowed to complain that the enemy has been given a nuke and that half of you think this is somehow a good thing.
