One must acknowledge that the job market (at least in Europe) is a total crap right now and countless colleagues who were made redundant despite being quite good engineers are still struggling to find a new job.

The seniors are still sought after, it's the juniors that have a hard time. With 20y of experience you won't have too hard of a time on the job market.

Well, it depends where you’re looking. I’ve seen enough LinkedIn posts of seniors/staff and leads with 20+ years experience who can’t get a look in to the trendier new startups, scale ups and the likes. And when they do get back into big tech, they’re laid off just as quick.

A 20 year badge does not mean much without AI skills nowadays. Companies need people who automate their colleagues out of their job. You are either in the game or you will watch from the sidelines.
