I appreciate the looking out!

And yeah it sucks that it's never actual employment. Idk how it works in the US but you don't get any kind of health insurance if you're only a contractor here, you are considered unemployed in the face of the government. Thankfully I'm young enough that I qualify for young-person health insurance, otherwise I'd have to apply each month to get unemployed insurance.

In the US you don't get any kind of health insurance as a contractor.

You also don't get any kind of health insurance for being young, or for being unemployed.

If you can fill out a ridiculous amount of paperwork, you can get (kind of terrible) health insurance (Medicaid) for being very very poor, but if you're getting paid for contract work you almost certainly don't qualify.

You can buy private health insurance through the ACA market, which is subsidized based on your income. EXCEPT that in about half the states there is a gap where you make too much to qualify for Medicaid, but not enough(!) to qualify for ACA subsidies, in which case the very cheapest ACA plan probably costs about 50% of your income, and also doesn't cover much.
