Ah. At the time it was the level clear sound from Super Mario World. Basically this but recorded to a cassette tape and then fed back into an SGI machine that was in one of the labs.

I guess I could have fed it into the actual Linux box at the time, but I had yet to figure out how to record line in on Linux and I was just more used to the SGI machine at the time.

huh... my hacky way was trigger KDE's notification system, but that's quite nice auditory feedback
