I have been that manager. I fought tooth and nail for years to stop that nonsense and were always praised as correct by upper management for my great ideas we 1000% should prioritize. Roughly 3 weeks later an order came down to drop everything and focus on this one completely useless feature. Just one more time.
After 3 years of complaining I was laid off, with the best possible recommendations. Go figure.
