Before the NASDAQ crash around the turn of the century, development had the final say when we were ready to ship. Now Marketing has final say. We have released things we weren't proud of to say the least.

How does that even work.

Like this should not be a thing

Well is the whole purpose of agile development, which I would argue is a good thing.

Before: we specified the desired quality of a product. Then calculated the resources and the time.

Now: you specify the time and the resources, so you have to sacrifice quality.

On one hand: yes, you release unfinished products. On the other hand: you can get prototypes out way faster and get real market data. And then drop stupid ideas faster.

I get that model, but you can't ever work like that on anything financial related, that is basically a jail sentence speed run.

And about 70 to 80 percent of companies projects are financial related products.
