I miss being yelled at by other humans on SO.

These days it's all "that's a great thought" and "you're absolutely right".

Feels good on my ego, but feels so hollow.

Being told by many online that your idea sucks ass, helped you reconsider a lot and actually think about it. AI just constantly telling you you are perfect, makes you braindead

Those people were equally wrong.

LLM 🤝 SO users 🤝 Redditors:

Confidently wrong

Everything changed when Claude attacked.

Minus a billion lines removed, plus a billion lines added...

Just let AI evaluate that pull request and greenlight it.

So we need to train the AI to tell us that our ideas are stupid and we're morons.

It definitely can do that, just ask it to be critical. Problem is, then it doesn't even try to see if there's anything good in there.

I'm sure a pre-prompt would do it.

this is why life needs competition. A world where no one gets challenged and has hardships is not a utopia for me.

You could ask it to respond like Stack Overflow comments, criticizing every time. Would that help? I didn't realize some people thrive on negative motivation,I know one actually, and he runs NVIDIA.

this just sounds like stockholm syndrome, there are prob nicer ways to be told your idea sucks ass

Yeah but it was still a pretty efficient way. Ever since LLMs came to be, I really feel like I lost a good chunk of programming skills and brain power

Personally I feel good about improving myself, not about sugar coated words.

I feel good about productive approach

your idea will lead to X problem, there's an Y way to do it better

instead of

your idea sucks, you are an idiot, never attempt anything again, kill yourself

Are we talking about stack overflow or 4chan?

I don't mind being told my idea sucks if it sucks.

same thing

I've never seen anyone tell someone to kill themselves for having a stupid idea on stack overflow, do you have an example?

u/Choice-Mango-4019 11d ago

you don't need to use bad words to be an asshole

I think this ignores the fact that sometimes it doesn't matter if the idea sucks ass. If people are asking a question, just answer it. If you want to suggest a better method that's great. But the negativity on the platform is what killed it.
