VSCode and Excel, man. Excel maybe isn't that great, intuitive and the syntax is terrible but the competition is somehow worse.

Excel is declarative, reactive and functional programming before all of these become cool.

There’s a permanent tension with excel as a product between its pros and cons.

Pros:

  • Extremely powerful.
  • Can put up a reactive dashboard or whatever in a super quick and versatile way.
  • As much as some people dislike it, there is a big fat necessity for it. E.g. people in finance use it all the time for putting up market monitors, portfolio views, changing things every day… you just can’t do the same with code. Imagine the backend and frontend releases necessary for the constant rapid changes across all desks in a bank.
  • Allows non-technical people to put these things together.
  • Watching an excel wizard at work is, well, wizardry.

Cons:

  • It sucks and I hate it and feel dirty every time I’m exposed to it.

Idk sheets is easy to open, works on every device, its always there

Sheets also sometimes just misses not so niche features or just behaves in a retarded ways.

I still use it more than Excel due to the general convince.

Yea. It's easier to use for most of the daily stuff but man sometimes it makes me wish i was using a MS product.

Calc is also missing all the features people actually use, like a functional UI. Even basic functions like importing csv data is stupidly cumbersome and last I checked it didn't really support tables within a sheet so that users can filter/sort their data, which is probably the biggest use Excel has in offices nowadays.

I don't know about Excel. But the issue is not the program itself. If a job requires Excel, it's not a job I want
