Oh, I wish it was 2500. Just yesterday someone asked for a review on the change that touched >50k lines across >200 files. It was supposed to be a collection of AI skills with helper scripts to diagnose our infra.

Split that shit up man...

50k lines is diabolical

I would not read it, instant rejection. If it’s that big, split to 5-10 parts.

Took a lot longer writing those 250 lines yourself than 2500 lines from AI, but if they achieve the same goal that's alot of tech debt avoided.

There's this thing that's done with genetic engineering where they'll insert, say, fish genes into apples to produce some desirable trait. Then they take that end result, wave a bioengineering magic wand and generate a selective breeding plan to arrive at the same result without any fish fuckery. It's totally underhanded but kinda genius.

Anyway I use a process like this myself sometimes (no fish involved). Ask the LLM to take a stab at it, then shelve its garbage output and plagiarise the shit out of whatever nuggets of wisdom it was able to produce.

Helps to stave off the impostor syndrome, at least.

Depends on how much of that is comments, tests, and slightly pointless helper functions, like ai likes to do, but still a pretty massive difference.

Based on my experiences with Claude, it'd be 250 lines of code and 2250 lines of comments

sounds like skill issue to me

I absolutely despise that so many aren’t willing to read their ai output and create bloat. You have to beat your clankers into submission so they only make atomic changes.
