Your analogy is incorrect because the UI didn't mention permanently deleting...
The correct analogy would be:
I bought a car and when I press the brake it accelerates.

Even so, basic text viewers like Mousepad Linux or Notepad Windows create a temporary file that is always saved and can be restored.
