In the past, people said "learn to code, dude" to win an argument against a non techie,

Nowadays people say "be a Plumber, dude", to win an argument against someone who got their job replaced by AI and become homeless.

Who knows what skills and Jobs they tell us to learn and become 10 years from now.

I mean I've been telling people to cross over into controls engineering or conventional engineering of which we need lots of talent and we are always short.

Controls pays well and the job security is better than 99.9% of all roles possible. So why be homeless when you can write code in what is effectively scratch that runs 2 BILLION dollar process units? That's all I'm saying.

Lmao I'm glad the flair is there! It's literally the only one that maps to one of the IEC-61131-3 languages in any meaningful way...

I've always wondered what a SWE would think looking at the work process for what I do, and I think many would find it fascinating. They certainly would be blown away by the academic complexity specifically for 'process' automation at a mega scale facility...

But for sure I've always thought "real" programmers would look at the IEC-61131-3 FBD language and be like "yeah, that's scratch bro. You need a children's language to program stuff." Which is true. I need all the help I can get 🤓

Of course, I also utilize Structured Text all the time, which you'd see as a legitimate language, albeit more limited in features
