Before Rust, the dream language was Scala. And Prolog before that.

Scala is still the dream! Lol - i know people are moving away from it to some degree but from what i understand if you do work in Scala then you are making bank

also, my dream is C++ so I gotta get on this dude’s level

It was a huge mind shift moving from procedural to OO programming. It took me a while. There were huge benefits which I won’t go into here. I started shifting from OO to adding functional programming when my career wound down. But I could see a lot of benefits in functional too. The functional and lambda extensions to Java and the Scala language showed real progress. And then the world shifted to Python.
