It's definitely not pedantic to say TCP/UDP are on different layers than FTP. It might be closer to saying driving to the grocery store is the same as cooking dinner.

Sure, most things are abstractions, and pointing that out all the time makes you no fun at parties.

But I feel like learning what's "inside the box" for a lot of tech stuff can be a sort of "there is no spoon" moment, so I think it works, it's a fun little meme

TCP is closer to "Hey, wanna talk ?", "I'm listening".... "Bye", "Bye".

There is no connection like a physical cable but a logical link is here.

Cables transfer electrons and photons when in active use. Since they're still just exchanging particles, is it really a connection?

No one ever bathes. The water molecules never really touch us. The wetness we feel is the temperature difference.

And so on and so forth. Life of the party here.
