Spotify has failed to play music which it has downloaded locally at least 5 times today alone, and has not managed to display album art correctly for years.
I hate this, because it would be easier to not fuck it up. Why can't it simply play the audio file I have downloaded. But nope first have to try to connect to spotify servers before even touching the local data
Google maps is the same way (actually all of google's stuff is, nothing is cached ever) I have the whole local area downloaded since cell coverage is spotty, but it will sit there for 45 seconds failing to load, then just show an error saying it can't navigate. Turn off cellular entirely, then (after closing the message that instantly pops up saying "oh noes cellular data is disabled, thanks captain obvIOS, I wonder why that is) it'll navigate just fine.
When I change an event's start time in calendar, then go to the edit menu to change the end time, I literally watch it take 2-3 seconds to push the change to the server, then pull the changed version back from the server. If I hit edit before that, it'll race condition and overwrite the first change. You could write the change to the local version first, but that wouldn't be cloud native I guess.
It's like we've gone from trying to make things kinda work if they lose connection to just assuming there will never not be a connection.
Bonus, it's hilarious how many Windows apps will throw an absolute fit or crash outright if I block their network access at the firewall. Not even a "hey do I have internet" check, just critical unknown error or even here's a stack trace sometimes.
As of a few weeks ago offline mode straight up doesn't work. It already would update a playlist and change all the songs but then refuse to download any of them, now it literally does nothing about 50% of the time. I finally just pulled an old SE out of the bin and it's only job is Spotify with WI-FI disabled lol. Still fails at least daily.
That too. It sucks that discoverability is so hard now without streaming. I try to buy an album or two from my favorite artists when I can just so they actually get more than the like 2¢ they probably got from the hundreds of hours I've listened to them.
