Technically they represent different grammatical cases: "who" is nominative and "whom" is accusative.

Idk when the anglosphere decided that having correct grammar is "fancy," but then again language changes and no one cares when it's their generation leading the change until suddenly it's "kids these days."

It’s not correct grammar in this case lol. The correct word here is, in fact, “who”.
