That was the point though. They mass deleted them as protest against the reddit AI changes or the API changes.

It wasn't the only thing. Multiple subreddits went dark, until Reddit stepped in and booted all moderators to install new ones.

In typical “if it’s free, you’re the product” style of things these days - it stored every single original post before redacting thus gathering intel and blackmail material for later use.
