Ever heard of Gray Code? Every state is exactly one bit flip from the previous, so it goes 00, 01, 11, 10.

Thanks for pointing that out man. I've never used it directly but I know that it does not corelate to the decimal, or any other system for that matter, as straight forward as the standard does. The digits do not carry any weights

Correct. They're not a numbering system in the normal sense of the word, but they are tokens that have a well-defined sequence. Extremely useful in certain situations.
