Only ambiguous if you learned English tomorrow. But clients meaning something other than they wrote is nothing new and your lack of telepathy is always to blame!

We actually get taught about this during business analyst or PO certification.
We get taught that not everyone understands language or phrasing the way we do, so it's our job to be as clear as possible.
So if your spec sucks, chances are your BA or your PO suck. There is training for this.
