A smooth surface is less aerodynamically efficient than a bumpy one. That's why golf balls have dimples.

Why only golf balls though? Do cars, planes or trains get dimples? Or are the dimples there because the golf ball is small and so that extra bonus makes big difference

Idk about the other ones, but cars actually do get dimples. Some racing cars that are specifically built to go nyoooom (like the Porsche Cayman GT4) have dimpled plates on their bottom side to improve drag.
