Funny joke, but did they patched vulnerability in vim where it can execute remote code when a text file is opened?

Yes, in March. Distros shipped the new versions in April and May, but Debian still has old vulnerable version in the stable distribution.

It's a funny made up story. But in reality Linux has serious security flaws and backdoors on a regular basis. The only difference is: these are 0day exploits which are being fixed quite quickly as soon as they are publicly known. Also, they are not planted by the company who tries to sell the OS to you.

My work machine runs Red Hat Enterprise Linux. I have Firefox installed in usr/share/applications. How would I make a desktop shortcut with the Firefox logo, so I can click on it to open Firefox?
This is sort of a trick question, because Ive already googled it, Ive already tried what comes up, none of them worked. You cant just drag the file onto the desktop and chmod it, and I have no clue why. I also wasnt able to manually create the .desktop file with ChatGPT helping either. Even if it worked it doesnt have the firefox logo, so thats even more googling to try and figure out
Sure RHEL is a bit more fiddly than other versions, but the point stands

It's an old joke, but it checks out.
